Maintain the line or create a new one

An established lawn edge may simply need the grass brought back to its existing boundary. Where the line is no longer clear, or you want to alter the shape, the work needs a more specific brief. Tell us which result you want rather than using “edging” to cover both.

What to show in your enquiry

Photograph the full stretch of edge and any awkward sections. Include corners, beds, trees, paving and areas where access is narrow. A close-up of the grass helps explain the finish, while a wider view shows the line in the garden.

Mention loose paving, known buried features and plants close to the proposed work. Edging is not a repair to damaged surfaces, and those conditions need to be understood before work is agreed.

Agree the shape before cutting

If the boundary is changing, identify where you want grass to remain and where the bed or path begins. A sketch or annotated photograph can help communicate the idea, but the actual line should be confirmed in the garden.

Do not assume that a new cut edge includes installing a physical edging product. Our work is focused on the grass boundary; materials or construction would need a separate discussion and confirmation.

Make upkeep and clearing up explicit

Agree what happens to material generated by the work and distinguish it from any old waste nearby. If edging is part of a regular visit, confirm what will be maintained and how any further change to the shape will be authorised.

How edging fits with mowing

An edge gives a visible boundary to maintain, but it does not replace cutting the lawn itself. If you want both done, say whether the existing line just needs trimming or whether you want part of it reshaped. Tell us which sides matter most, such as a path used every day or a border that has become hard to distinguish. That lets the quote describe the actual combination of work rather than treating “mow and tidy” as an undefined package.
