A cut edge is what makes the difference between grass that has been mown and a lawn that looks looked after. We cut and maintain clean lines along borders, paths and patios.
Edging is the cheapest visible improvement you can make to a garden. Two lawns cut to the same height look completely different if one has a clean edge and the other blurs into the border, and most people cannot say why the tidy one looks better. It is the line.

Cutting a new edge
Where an edge has been lost entirely — grass grown a foot into a border, or a bed that has crept across the lawn — we cut a fresh line rather than following whatever the grass has decided. It takes longer the first time and then holds with light trimming on each visit.
Keeping it
An edge cut once and left is an edge you will lose by the end of the season. It is included in regular visits, which is where it belongs — five minutes a fortnight rather than an hour twice a year.
Terraced gardens
Long narrow rear gardens, which is most of Catford, Hither Green and Brockley, are almost entirely edge — two long fence lines and a path down one side. In gardens shaped like that, edging is a bigger share of how the garden reads than the mowing is.

Is edging included in lawn mowing?
Trimming the existing edges is part of a regular mowing visit. Cutting a fresh edge where one has been lost is extra the first time, then it is maintained as part of the visit.
Do you install edging strip?
We cut and maintain edges. If you want a physical edging strip or board fitted, ask and we will tell you whether it is worth it for your garden.
How often does an edge need doing?
A light trim every visit holds it. Left for a whole season it will need cutting back properly again.
