A routine based on the garden you have

Regular maintenance is a continuing arrangement, not a promise to perform the same list at every visit. Start with the areas you want looked after and the result you want to maintain. We can then discuss how the work fits together and which decisions need to be made before a visit.

Our confirmed maintenance work includes weeding, borders, planting, general tidying and seasonal cutting back. Mowing, lawn edging and green-waste removal can also be discussed as part of the agreed scope.

Keep the planting you value

Point out plants, bulbs and areas you want retained, including anything that is not obvious at the time of assessment. If you are uncertain about a plant or the right time to cut it back, flag that for discussion. A general maintenance instruction should not be treated as permission to remove all untidy growth.

Agree the first visit and the ongoing work separately

If tasks have accumulated, the first visit may need a different scope from later maintenance. A one-off tidy suits a finite job list, while overgrown-garden clearance addresses a more substantial reset. We should agree that starting point rather than assuming every backlog fits into a routine visit.

Decide what you will look after between visits and which tasks you want us to manage. Discuss access, green waste, any materials and whether a water or power supply is required for the agreed work. Those arrangements should be confirmed, not guessed.

Review the routine as the garden changes

A garden used mainly for sitting has different priorities from one where children play on the lawn or planting beds receive most attention. New pots, a changed access route or seasonal growth can alter the work. Tell us about changes so the arrangement remains useful.

Make each visit work around your priorities

Before agreeing a routine, decide which result matters most: a usable lawn, clear paths, cared-for borders or a general seasonal reset. The priority can change through the year, so it is worth saying when one task should take precedence over another. If you maintain some parts yourself, identify those too. A clear division of responsibilities helps avoid duplicating work and gives both sides a practical way to review whether the arrangement is still right for the garden.
