Gardener in Brockley
Brockley is minutes from us and full of the long Victorian terraced gardens that suit a set fortnightly visit.
The Brockley conservation area streets are tree-lined, which is lovely to live on and does two specific things to a garden: it puts a lot of it in shade for part of the day, and it drops a great deal of leaf in autumn.
Shade is the one that catches people out. Grass in a north-facing Brockley back garden with a street tree at the front and neighbours’ trees behind is never going to be a bowling green, and cutting it short in the hope of improving it makes it thinner. Cut higher, it holds together far better.
Long narrow gardens
As in Catford, the plots here are deep and thin, so the fence lines and the edges are most of what you see. Keeping those sharp does more for how the garden looks than anything you can do to the middle of the lawn.
Access
A lot of these houses have no rear access, so waste comes out through the hallway. That is routine for us — it just needs to be known before the day so we arrive set up for it rather than improvising with your carpet.

Questions about this service
Do you cover the conservation area streets?
Yes, and a good share of our Brockley work is on them.
How do you get waste out if there is no side gate?
Through the house, with sheets down and everything bagged. It is the normal arrangement on these streets.
