Gardener in Hither Green

Hither Green shares its housing stock and its garden shape with Catford: late-Victorian terraces, deep thin rear plots, side paths, and a lot of fence line for the amount of ground.

What we notice most here is how much difference the far end of the garden makes. These plots are long enough that the bottom third is out of sight from the house, and that is reliably where the brambles, the self-seeded sycamore and the collapsing shed end up. Sorting the back and then holding the whole plot on regular visits is the usual sequence.

Sharing boundaries
