Terms of service

These are the terms PW Gardening Service, trading as Powell and Wallace Ltd, works to. They are here so that both sides know what was agreed.

Quotes

Quotes are free and carry no obligation. A quote given from a photo or a description assumes the garden is roughly as described; if we arrive and it is substantially different — considerably more growth, no access, waste that is not green waste — we will tell you before starting and agree a revised price or leave it, rather than doing the work and presenting a larger bill afterwards.

Quotes are valid for 30 days. Gardens grow, and a clearance quoted in April is a different job in July.

Visits

Regular customers are given a set day. Weather can move it: we do not cut wet grass, because it damages the lawn and produces a poor finish, and we will not work in conditions that are unsafe. If we have to move a visit we will let you know and come as soon as we sensibly can.

Access

You need to make sure we can reach the garden — an unlocked side gate, a key left with a neighbour, or someone in. If we arrive at an agreed time and cannot get in, we may charge for the visit, because the slot cannot be used for anyone else.

Please also tell us about anything we would not expect: a dog in the garden, an unsafe step, a hidden cable, a plant you do not want touched, or a neighbour dispute over a boundary.

What we do and do not do

We are gardeners. We mow, maintain, edge, prune shrubs and hedges, and clear green waste. We do not carry out tree surgery, climbing work or felling, and we do not remove rubble, building waste, tyres, paint, appliances or general household rubbish — that requires a licensed waste carrier. Where a job involves both we will do the green waste and tell you plainly what needs somebody else.

Green waste

Green waste generated by our work is taken away as part of the price unless we have agreed otherwise in writing. It is disposed of responsibly.

Plants and existing planting

We will not remove or cut back anything substantial without your agreement. If you ask us to cut something back at a time of year that risks damaging it, we will tell you first, and go ahead if you still want us to. Gardens are living things and we cannot guarantee that a plant will recover or survive.

Payment

For regular visits, payment is due on the day or by the arrangement we have agreed. For one-off and clearance work, on completion. If a job runs over more than one day we may ask for a payment against it.

Cancellation

Cancel or move a visit by giving us as much notice as you can — a day is usually enough for a routine visit. For booked clearance work, please give at least 48 hours, since that is a substantial block of time we will have held for you. We may charge for a visit cancelled on the day.

If something goes wrong

Tell us. Ring or email, and we will come back and put right anything we have done badly at no charge. That is a far better outcome for everybody than a bad review, and it is the reason we would rather hear about it than not.
