What affects the cost of garden clearance?
A clearance quote depends on the work hidden inside the growth as well as what you can see. Define the end result and identify the waste before comparing prices.
Start with the boundary of the job
Does “clear the garden” mean opening one route, cutting back unwanted growth across the plot, or removing material that is already piled up? Each is a different scope. Draw or describe the area and list the plants, structures and features that must remain.
A quote for overgrown-garden clearance should not be compared directly with a quote for collecting green waste. The first includes work on standing growth; the second may start after that work has already happened.
Growth type matters as well as height
Photograph several parts of the garden. Long grass, tangled vegetation and woody growth may look similarly untidy from a distance, yet require different assessment. Say how long the garden has been left and whether previous work revealed obstacles or difficult access.
Do not enter dense or unsafe areas to improve the pictures. Mark those parts as unseen. A provider should be able to explain when a visit is needed before confirming the price, rather than treating uncertainty as if it does not exist.
Show the route out
The working area is only part of the job. Include gates, steps, shared passageways and any route through the house. Describe how access will be arranged and whether permissions are needed. These details help establish how material can be moved without making assumptions on the day.
If you have parking or loading information, supply it accurately and allow the provider to confirm the arrangements. Do not promise access to somebody else’s land or a shared space without agreement.
Keep waste categories separate
Tell the provider about soil, rubble, timber, furniture, containers and other items separately from plant material. A heap can contain more than the visible top layer. Do not conceal uncertain contents by calling everything garden waste.
When arranging private disposal, use GOV.UK’s guidance on checking a waste collector. Ask for registration details and check them, rather than treating a low price as sufficient reassurance. This applies to garden waste too.
Ask what the garden will be left like
Agree the stopping point: which growth will be removed, what will remain, whether cut material leaves the site and what follow-up is expected. Clearance is not automatically landscaping, repair work or a guarantee that unwanted growth will never return.
If the brief changes after work starts, ask for the additional scope and price to be agreed before proceeding. Keep that record with the original quote, particularly where someone else is arranging access on your behalf.
Request an assessment, not a guessed figure
PW Gardening Service quotes for the actual garden and agreed work; we have not published an invented price band here. Send photographs and your postcode, identify the areas to retain and explain the access. See planning an overgrown-garden reset for the decisions to make before an assessment.
